Bharat Pannu – India N-S – 2019-10-29

Congratulations to Bharat Pannu for setting the India N-S Male (18-49) record on a Standard bike from 2019-10-2 1 to 2019-10-29 He covered the 2240 miles in 8d - 9h 45 min - for an average speed of 11.10 mph Read about his adventure here: K2K Expedition (21st Oct to 29th Oct 2019) by Bharat Pannu, India K2K expedition was a CHALLENGE which I had been looking forward of attempting since past few years. I had to undergo strict training regime, immaculate planning before event and relentless efforts by my support crew members. It tested my determination and all the endurance cycling experience. It was a wonderful event and the complete team had a wonderful time covering the length of incredible India i.e. from the beautiful valleys of Kashmir to sun-soaked beaches of Kanyakumari. The route from Kashmir to Kanyakumari was about 70% flat with rolling terrain for 20% and the balance 10% was mountainous. I had covered a total of 3605 km with an elevation gain of 20500 m. Out of the total time of 201 hours 45 minutes of the expedition; my riding time was 156 hours 10 minutes. I had not faced any medical or [...]

Gerald Eddlemon – Outdoor Track records – 2019-10-18

Congratulations to Gerald (Gerry) Eddlemon for breaking 2 existing records in the 70+ age group category. 200 km in 07:35:54.89 121.813 Miles in 6 hours NOTE: Gerry owns so many records that sometimes he breaks his own records just for something to do! Here is Gerry's personal report: ============================= Rider G.K. Eddlemon’s Narrative Summary WUCA Time/Distance Trials Record Attempts for Track, 70+ age class, Oct. 18, 2019   The 119th and 120th WUCA/UMCA Records Note to reader: I’ve yet to recheck my arithmetic for total number of records, but I believe these are the correct figures.  And yes, some of these records were set in some of our smallest states, but some also in larger states and like Alaska, Florida, and smaller but still challenging nations like New Zealand and Israel (crossing Armageddon in 100+ deg F temperatures!).   About ten time and distance trial record attempts were begun concurrently, but multiple slow-downs and stops due to leg cramps, a minor crash, and significant drop in average speed after about 250 Km jeopardized the 6-Hour and 200 Km record attempts and made it unlikely that the records for the 300 Km and longer time trials would be broken.  The chief official [...]

Matt Stephens – Wales S-N – 2019-11-18

Congratulation to Matt Stevens who set the male (18-49) Standard record for the Wales S-N. He rode the 174.4 miles in 13 hours an 25 minutes under some very cold and challenging conditions. He now owns the S-N and the E-W record in his age-group! See his personal account below I, Matthew Stevens, am writing this report following my successful attempt to establish a solo across country record for Wales (South to North), following an earlier abandoned attempt in April 2019. I was particularly interested in this record, as it was one that had not yet been achieved. The year previous I managed to break a WUCA record for East to West Wales, and I felt that this was the obvious next step. At 07:24 I set off from the entrance to the 'Barry Island Carpark' on Friars Road in Barry, one of the most southerly point in Wales. Conditions throughout the most of the ride were very good for the time of year. Dry, wonderfully sunny, but only about 5 degrees C. Although I had a total of 3 bikes on the follow car, I infact remained with one for the entirety, a good lightweight and comfortable Ribble Endurance [...]

What were the conditions like? Conditions were good but humid, temperatures reached upper 80’s in the afternoon and high 60’s low 70’s at the start.   We had a WSW wind and in the afternoon reached 10-12 MPH.   Experienced some difficult cross winds in the late afternoon, strong enough that a passing truck knocked off the amber lights from the follow vehicle.  Fortunately the lights were only scratched and battle beaten but still in good operation to continue the attempt. We left the hotel at 3:45a and started at approximately 4:00a to get a jump on Cincinnati commuter traffic and rode 3 hours in the dark hours of the morning.  Traffic was light through Cincinnati and Dayton area considering the time of day.   The first 50 miles were rolling hills and we climbed 2900 [...]

Only a mile or two into the attempt I had to pull over and stop in order to not impede traffic, but traffic thinned out the [...]
